Marquis of Londonderry, British statesman, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs after 1812, one of the key players in the great coalition against Napoleon. He represented Britain at the Congresses of Vienna in 1814 and Paris 1815. After some periods of mental instability, he committed suicide in 1822. Address panel written and signed by Castlereagh, dated March 3, 1817. Originally from a very old collection, the item comes with c. 19th century handwritten quotes concerning Castlereagh from Napoleon, Byron, Lady Stanhope and Catherine Hatton.
