King of Great Britain, eldest son of George III. In 1811, when George III's mental instability prevented him from fulfilling his duties, George IV (then Prince of Wales) was appointed Prince Regent, ruling in his father's name. He ascended the throne as George IV upon the death of George III in 1820. Vellum commission document appointing Charles Finch as Paymaster to the 2nd Battalion of the 12th East Suffolk Regiment, dated February 13, 1812, during the Napoleonic Wars.
